Today the B movie genre is represented by films like Sharknado directed by Anthony C. Ferrante and Mega Shark vs Giant Octupus Directed by Jack Perez. The titles say it all. Many will look at the title and tut walking swiftly away, however more young adults are watching these films. These people are looking at the title and thinking: “that is a film I want to make fun of with my friends.” I for one am all up for watching these “terrible films” with my friends, they are brilliant films to talk about. As a filmmaker, you can really take something from these films whether they are good or bad. As it is, Hollywood is jumping on to this growing audience and recreating the classics. Take Godzillafor example and it’s already set for a sequel. While Pacific Rim was definitely your Robots vs Monsters update. In today’s economy and with the ever-evolving ways people can create films on a low budget, it is now plausible and acceptable for filmmakers to create fun and exciting films out of a genre which is generally frowned upon (and probably always will be). If a film can entertain and transport us somewhere else for a couple of hours without getting bored, then it can’t be that bad. Source: Cinajam.com |
